Story of the Origin of Kanikonna Flower – Golden Rain Tree

Happy Vishu 2019.

Origin of Vishu Kani Konna flower is associated with Sri Krishna – and it symbolically shows the power of devotion.

Once there was a boy who regularly worshipped at a Sri Krishna Templenear his home. The boy had only one wish that he wanted to see Gopalakrishna or the child form of Bhagavan Sri Krishna. He only prayed for the fulfillment of this wish.

Moved by his devotion, Sri Krishna appeared in the child form before the boy. The boy had tears rolling down his cheeks. He stood numb.
Sri Krishna asked the boy what he wanted. With tears in his eyes, the boy answered what more can I get other than seeing you. He had no other wish.

Little കൃഷ്ണൻ

Sri Krishna was happy with the boy and gave him the ornament that was worn around his waist – Aranjanam.
The boy the golden chain carried it with him and showed to his friends. But none of them believed the story. They all said it was a fake chain.
Next day when the priest opened the temple, he found that the chain around the waist of the murti of Sri Krishna was missing.
News spread around and soon people reached the home of the boy accusing him of stealing the chain.
The mother of the boy could not tolerate people calling his child a thief.

She threw the chain out into the garden. The chain got stuck on a tree and the tree suddenly bloomed with yellow flowers.
These yellow flowers are the Vishu Kani Konna.
Kanikonna is known as the Golden Shower Tree or Indian laburnum Cassia. It is the state flower of KeralaState in India. It is the national flower of Thailand.

Where Ganges flows in Thenari, Kerala- Saragangathreetha.

The scenic View of Thenari Ram Theertham.

There is a sree Rama temple which is known as saragangatheertha. There is a bull statue in this temple , since the water through the bulls mouth use to come throughout day and night for years. people says that the water is coming from river Ganga which is flowing at Banaras Uttar Pradesh   state in India .the real story of water coming from Uttar Pradesh  Varanasi  to theneri is as follows .

Sri Ram Theertham

After the battle between Rama and Ravana  at Srilanka to take back his wife Sita, They were coming back to Ayodhya. First they reached to Rameswaram which is at Tamilnadu. There Sree Rama decided to construct a Siva temple. There they install a siva linga with the help of sand by Sitadevi since Hanuman took a long time to bring the Spadika linga from mount Himalaya. After reaching  with linga Hanuman stood in front of Rama with linga. Rama told him to remove the Sita prathesta lingam and replace the  spadiga lingam there.      Being a strong man Hanuman was not able to remove the Sita prathista linga. He came to know the power  of Goddess Sita. He left his ego and he became a real servent of the masters( rama and lakshmana). From they started there journey to Ayodhya .They reached to theneri and decided to take rest for some time. At that time Sitadevi feel very thirsty, they searched for drinking water around the area. They didn’t get it. Sree Rama told Lakshmana to arrow nearby place to make a big pit to get   water. But the water came from the pit was muddy in colour which is not drinkable. Then Sree Rama put an arrow and the water came as an artesian well like and the water started flowing like fountain. When the  water started coming  from  Ganga, goddess Ganga devi send one of his deciple neer kumizhi (water bubble) through this water to thenari. After reaching at thenari she saw sree rama standing there, she bowed sree rama and she gave the news to ganga devi. But sree rama told there, since you come over here you stay here itself and look after the people in thenari. And now she is called as neerkumizhi amman and also kown as thrikkumuzhi amman.  And they made a well the on the artesian water and they placed a bull statue and opening it’s mouth nearby the well and the water will be flowing through the mouth of the bull. The bull statue is in top of the well. And flowing water throughout the year.        Sreerama, Lakshmana and Sita came to madhyaranya siva temple and worshipped Lord Shiva and they started their journey back. The most speciality of the new siva temple is the linga of shiva is made by parasurama. While renewal the village people tried to put new shiv linga they failed to remove the old version. So they believes that it is a most powerful one.

How Squirrel Got Its Stripes – A true story .

A Tale from the Ramayana, the ancient Hindu epic poem of India, which narrates the struggle of the divine prince Sri Rama to rescue his wife Sita from the demon king Ravana.

Squirrel with Stripes

“Each serves according to their strength”

Long ago in ancient India a ten-headed monster called Ravana the Rakshasa kidnapped a king’s beloved wife. The king was named Sri (Lord) Rama and his queen was named Sita. Everyone loved the king and queen because their hearts were pure. Sri Rama set off to rescue his wife with the Prime Minister of the Monkey King, Sri Hanuman, leading an army of monkeys.

They traveled until they came to a vast sea that they would have to cross to reach Ravana’s kingdom. Sri Rama attempted to calm the raging ocean by shooting his magic arrows into the waves. But the King of the Sea rose up and said, “The seas cannot be overcome by force, but only by building a strong bridge.” So, Sri Rama ordered the monkeys to construct a stone bridge that could hold his entire invading army.

Monkey after monkey set to work carrying huge stones and enormous boulders to the seaside. Thousands of monkeys worked ceaselessly and Sri Rama was pleased. Then the king noticed that a small brown squirrel rushed up and down from the hills to the shore carrying little pebbles in her mouth. “What is that little creature doing?” he wondered.

The monkeys also saw the squirrel and grew angry. “Get out of our way,” they screeched. “You are too small. You are not needed.”

The little squirrel looked up and said, “I am helping to build the bridge to save Queen Sita.” All the monkeys began to laugh. They held their sides and roared and hopped and mocked the little squirrel. “We have never heard anything so foolish in our entire lives,” they said.

The squirrel answered, “I cannot carry rocks or stones. I can only lift small pebbles, but that is what I can do to help. My heart weeps for Sita and I want to be of assistance.”

The monkeys moved the squirrel away, but she continued to carry small pebbles and pile them up nearby. Finally, one monkey grew so irritated that he lifted the little animal and threw her into the air. The squirrel cried out, “Rama!” The lord lifted his hand and caught the squirrel safely in his palm.

It was just at that moment that the monkeys realized they needed the little pebbles to place between the larger stones to keep the bridge from falling.

Lord Rama said to them, “Monkeys, never despise the weak or the deeds of those that are not as strong as you. Each serves according to his strength and capacities and each is needed to make this bridge.” With three fingers, Sri Rama drew three lines down the squirrel’s back. “What truly matters is not the strength one has, but how great one’s love and devotion is.” From that day forth squirrels have had three pale stripes on their rich brown furry backs—marks of the great Sri Rama. And that is how the strongest bridge across the sea was built.
